Beau de Loménie announces the creation of BDL-IP LEGAL
Beau de Loménie strengthens its contractual and litigation practice with the creation of BDL-IP LEGAL, a multi-professional firm of attorneys-at-law and patent and trademark-attorneys dedicated to intellectual property.
Gaston Vedel, Attorney at Law at the Paris Bar since 2010, is in charge of this new structure.
Gaston Vedel has over fifteen years of experience in intellectual property, particularly in the field of patent litigation. He began his career as an Attorney-at-law in the IP litigation department of Bird & Bird, in Paris. He joined Beau de Loménie in 2012 and participated to the development of the firm’s contractual and litigation activities, in close collaboration with its patent and trademark-attorneys. He is a graduate of the Universities of Paris II (Panthéon-Assas) and Paris XI (Paris Sud), the Centre for International Industrial Property Studies (CEIPI) at the University of Strasbourg and Bond University, Australia. He is a lecturer at the CEIPI, regularly contributes to training programs and is the author of articles and commentaries on intellectual property-related issues.
With the creation of BDL-IP LEGAL, Beau de Loménie has strengthened its ability to assist and represent its clients in intellectual property litigation matters before French courts, as well as before the Unified Patent Court (UPC). Our multi-disciplinary teams of patent attorneys, lawyers and attorneys at law provide a specific expertise for each case, thanks to an integrated approach combining technical and legal skills and personalized support for each client.
After the opening of three new branch offices in 2022, the creation of BDL-IP LEGAL demonstrates Beau de Loménie’s commitment to provide comprehensive and dedicated legal solutions, in line with the expectations and interests of its clients.
Didier Intès, European Patent Attorney, Managing Partner of Beau de Loménie, Partner and Managing Director of BDL-IP LEGAL, comments:
“As the firm is regularly involved in French and European patent litigation, we have had a dedicated litigation department for many years, led by qualified attorneys-at-law working with our patent and trademark-attorneys. It was in this context that Gaston joined us in 2012. However, working within a patent and trademark firm, these attorneys-at-law did not have the opportunity to directly represent our clients before Court. Gaston’s exceptional qualities and team spirit make him the ideal person to manage a mixed structure which will finally enable our attorneys-at-law to fully represent our clients, even for oral hearings.
As for our patent and trademark-attorneys, they handle more than 100 oral proceedings before the European Patent Office every year and are very comfortable with the technical aspects of pleadings.
The entry into force of the Unified Patent Court (UPC) gives them the opportunity to represent our clients before this new Court. Our teams include 35 European patent attorneys qualified as UPC representatives, most of whom have completed dedicated legal and litigation trainings to prepare them for representation before the UPC.
The creation of BDL-IP LEGAL enables us to provide a mixed representation of European patent-attorneys and attorneys-at-law, enabling optimized management of cases and facilitating the interaction with our clients.”
Pierre Balesta, European Patent Attorney, Partner of Beau de Loménie, Partner and Managing Director of BDL-IP LEGAL, declares:
“The integration of a team of attorneys-at-law specialized in intellectual property within the Group Beau de Loménie participates to our wish to offer our clients, particularly French SMEs, a comprehensive range of services. Our offer now includes assistance and representation not only before French courts, but also before the new Unified Patent Court (UPC).
Our ambition is to simplify the management of the technical and legal aspects of our clients’ cases, which usually require the involvement of several firms. By offering an integrated, high-quality approach tailored to our clients’ budgetary constraints, we aim to provide them with a dedicated offer of service.”
Grégory Ingrand, European Trademark and Design Attorney, Partner of Beau de Loménie, co-head of the Trademarks, Designs, Copyright and Domain names department, comments:
“The creation of BDL-IP LEGAL now enables Beau de Loménie to offer a comprehensive range of services in the field of trademarks and designs. Our French and foreign clients will benefit from the combined expertise of lawyers and attorneys-at-law to support them in appeals against decisions of the Director of the French Patent Office (INPI) before the Paris Court of Appeal, as well as in litigation before the French courts. This development is in line with Beau de Loménie’s DNA: combining the diversity of its teams’ expertise to offer personalized and high-quality support to its customers.”
Gaston Vedel, Attorney-at-law, Partner and Chairman of BDL-IP LEGAL, adds:
“The creation of this new structure extends the wish of Cabinet Beau de Loménie to go even further in the pluri-disciplinary handling of cases, involving attorneys-at-law, lawyers and patent and trademark-attorneys having a recognized expertise in the legal and technical fields.
This reflects our commitment to constantly meeting our customers’ expectations, by providing them with a comprehensive range of legal, judicial and technical services specifically adapted to their needs.
Our ambition is to continue to offer high-quality services, in line with Beau de Loménie’s reputation, but at a competitive cost for our clients.
From a personal point of view, I am returning to my original qualification and job as a litigation attorney-at-law, which I had put on hold for a few years, while continuing to support our clients in these fields.
It is with great pleasure that I welcome this new adventure and these new challenges.”
